Taytay
San Juan Bautista Parish
Begun as a Franciscan mission in 1578, the mission was handed over in 1591 to Jesuit historian Pedro Chirino who was responsible for convincing the townspeople to move the church and townsite to its present location on top of a hill. In 1630, a stone church built in 1603 by Tagalog and Chinese artisans was replaced by bigger one by Juan de Salazar.
Heritage Features: Remnants of the 1630 church have been incorporated into the fabric of the church facade. |
