Longos
San Juan Bautista Parish
Between Paete and Pagsanjan is Longos. It is off the road that loops around the lake, but the detour is worth the surprise. From three visitas of Paete, San Antonio, Abacao and Babaye, organized in 1587 in compliance the directive of San Pedro Bautista, the town of Longos was organized. The churchs date of construction is uncertain though stylistic affinities with Tanay church indicate that it may be contemporaneous to that church, however, the altars appear to be of 19th century vintage.
Heritage Highlights: Like Tanay, Rococo motifs embellish the church. It may have had Rococo altars like Tanay, however, the altars presently in the church are Neoclassical. The church stands in front of a plaza, planted with trees, giving the whole complex an air of authenticity. |
