1. Treasure, inheritance.
2. Archaic. Bride price. These consisted of property, heirloom, and servants given by a prospective groom to the bride’s family to compensate the parents for the pain and trouble they took in raising the bride. It was a sign of goodwill from the groom’s family.

Bahandi, a website focusing on the cultural heritage of the Philippines, fosters responsible tourism of sites and places rich in history and expressive of the best in Philippine culture. Visiting these places is an enriching experience that will make the traveler understand the Philippines and the Filipino. It reveals why this archipelago of 7,100 islands, seas and waterways of exquisite beauty is unique in the whole world; unique not just because of the bounty of nature but because of the Filipino's creative response to nature and the forces which shaped the country's history and culture.

Heritage tourism is for the special breed of visitor, open to others, sensitive to cultural differences, ready to learn. A complement of heritage tourism is ecotourism, which focuses on the responsible appreciation of nature's bounty. Both heritage and ecotourism hope to preserve a country's riches for future generations.
