LAOAG

Laoag is the capital city of Ilocos Norte province in the Ilocos and Pangasinan region. (link to regional page) It is renowned for its belltowers, historical monuments, and centuries-old churches, the best-known being the St. William's Cathedral. It is also the site of the massive 45-meter high Sinking Belltower-one of the tallest in the country. You will also find here several memorabilia of the late president, Ferdinand E. Marcos.

Laoag is now considered an international gateway since the opening of the Laoag International Airport. The city is also tagged "The Sparkling Gem of Ilocandia."

Sinking Belltower
Considered the tallest, biggest, most massive belltower in the Philippines.

Sir William's Cathedral
One of the many old and beautiful Spanish churches in the province. Built between 1650 and 1700, it is an example of Italian Renaissance architecture.

Tobacco Monopoly Monument
Located at the foot of Marcos Bridge, it memorializes the lifting of the Tobacco Monopoly from 1872-1881. It is a reminder of the people's resistance to the Spanish colonizers.

Ermita Hill
Offers a good view of the city.

MAJOR EVENTS :

Laoag City & Provincial Fiesta - February 7-10
A joint celebration of the feast of Laoag's patron saint, St. William, and the Ilocos Norte's Fiesta. It is highlighted by a floral parade, zarzuelas, and the coronation of Bb. Laoag City and Ilocos Norte.

Pamulinawen - February
Pamulinawen means "Ilocano maiden" in Ilocano. Activities include the Pinakbet Festival, a calesa parade and a street pageantry depicting the Ilocano customs and virtues.
