DAVAO CITY

The city of Davao is part of the Davao del Sur province in the Southern Mindanao region. It is the primary agricultural and trading center in Mindanao and is the country's gateway to the bustling East Asian Growth Area. It is also an international gateway with the opening of the Davao International Airport.

The city is tagged the "Convention City of the South," as it has successfully hosted national and international conferences, assemblies, and sporting events. It is also home to the country's highest peak, Mt. Apo; the rare waling-waling orchid; the exotic durian fruit; and is known to produce export-quality handicrafts.

Lon Wa Temple (Around the City)
The biggest Buddha temple in Mindanao.

Taoist Temple (Around the City)
Has a beautiful pagoda.

U.P. Mindanao Cultural Center (Arou point for trips to Samal, Talicud, and Ligid Islands.

Shrine of the Holy Infant Jesus of Prague (Around the City)
A small shrine situated on a hill, and gives a good view of the city and Davao Gulf. There is a Japanese Shrine nearby, which commemorates the dead of World War II.

Crocodile Park (Outside the City)
Home to the country's largest crocodile. It also features a mini-zoo and an aviary.

Mt. Apo(Outside the City)
The Philippines' highest mountain, (3114 meters). It is a dormant volcano with no recorded eruptions.

Mt. Apo Science Foundation (Outside the City)
Located at the base of Mt. Apo and offers great views.

Philippine Eagle Nature Center (Outside the City)
Provides shelter and a breeding program for Philippine eagles. It is run by the Philippine Eagle Foundation Inc. (PEFI)

Malagos Garden Resort (Outside the City)
A sanctuary of over 20 species of orchids, tropical plants, butterflies, and durian trees. It also has a restaurant and a swimming pool.

Samal Island (Outside the City)
The largest of the islands fronting Davao City. It has a number of resorts, the most popular of which is the world-class hotel complex, the Pearl Farm Beach Resort. This island used to be a pearl farm, where cultured pearls were produced from thousands of oysters.

Talicud Island (Outside the City)
Has nice beaches good for swimming and snorkeling. There are also three separate caves, two small entrances where giant pythons dwell, and a subterranean tunnel said to cross Davao Gulf. These attractions are ideal for snake and bat hunting.
